Radical religious groups not so righteous
In a Washington Post article titled "The extreme right's element of hatred, violence" by Eugene Robinson an interesting topic was presented.
However, I do not believe that the violent methods utilized are the ideals of right-wing politics.
It is a well-known fact that right-wing politics in America are deeply rooted in the Bible; however, the idea that left-wing politics are not religious because of their liberal approach is inaccurate.
Just look at the political campaigns of politicians on both sides. All candidates in a sense are required to display an overwhelming Christian background to become elected.
The difference among left-wing and right-wing politics comes in the interpretation of the Bible.
Right-wing politicians have a strict interpretation of the Bible. It is almost as if they take every word literally. For instance, take the stance of right-wing politicians against homosexual marriage or abortion.
Left-wing politicians use the principles of the Bible to create their legislation; however, they do not use the Bible word for word to create their policies. This is the difference between right-wing and left-wing politicians, not violence.
These violent groups that claim to be right-wing are not right-wing at all. They have distorted the word of the Bible and contradicted their own faith.
Say what you will about any Republican and their ideals; none of them have ever preached or advocated violence.
It goes without saying that any religious beliefs that are reinforced with violence are not religious beliefs at all. The cardinal sin is murder.
Groups mentioned in the article such as the Hutaree that claim to be Christian warriors are doing nothing but distorting the word and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.
Over this past decade we have witnessed "religious wars" in Israel and terrorism in the United States. The one thing they all have in common is that the perpetrators claim they are killing on behalf of religion and justice.
It is quite ironic that the principles that these so-called religious groups stand for are contradicting the true message of their scripture.
