COACH'S GAME BALL
Francesca Edgerton
Head Volleyball Coach Edric Poitier selected Francesca Edgerton as the recipient of this issue's Game Ball because "her ability and leadership."
Edgerton, a senior from Ellenboro, N.C., said she is hoping to build on the success she had last season; she led the Lady Rams with 199 total kills and was named to the CIAA All-Conference Team.
Edgerton was also the starting outfielder on the Lady Rams softball team that won its second straight CIAA championship last season.
Q: How did you react when Coach Poitier chose you as the player to receive this issue's game ball?
Edgerton: I was shocked. Coach is very hard on me. He's always pushing me to the best of my ability. For him to recognize that my hard work is actually paying off makes me feel good.
Q: During a volleyball game, what are some of the ways you try to make an impact for your team?
Edgerton: I try to talk at all times. It's all about communication and keeping my team up. If someone is down, I try to tell her right back that we'll get the next point.
Q: Describe the type of teammate you try to be on and off the court?
Edgerton: We're all like a family here. Everybody is together. If we see each other around campus, we always try to speak to each other. And during practice, we push each other to become better players. So we're always there for one another.
Q: This is your senior year. How focused are you to finish your career with a strong season?
Edgerton: I'm ready to break some records. I want to win. I want us to be CIAA champions. And I was on the All-CIAA Preseason team, so it's my goal to either be CIAA Player of the Year or on the All-CIAA Conference team again.
