WSSU Women’s Basketball
As the first game of the season for Winston Salem State Rams Women’s Basketball team is right around the corner, there is a lot that we should be excited about for the upcoming season. First, we should reflect on the bang-up season they had last year. The Lady Rams Finished the 2017-2018 season with 14 wins and 14 losses fishing 1st in the CIAA South. Having 3 out of their 5 leading scores graduate, the Lady Rams will be looking for the lone senior Brionna Pate who lead the team 3rd and scoring and Sophomore Teara Johnson who was 5th in scoring to lead the way for the Lady Rams this season. Who will follow them up? Well, will have to see this season with only 5 of the 13 players returning from last season. Over the offseason, Coach L’Tona Lamonte brought in 10 new faces to join the Lady Rams. 2 of the new faces are assistant coaches Sharee Boyd and Dexter Jenkins. The other 8 players are Freshman 5-6 Guard Amaya Tucker, 5-6 Guard Hailey Gipson, 6-0 Forward Khamara Patterson, 5-11 Forward Kinnedy Lawrence, 5-8 Guard Kyree Hall, 5-8 Guard Dajha Williams, 5-9 Eugenia Marcelli and Junior transfer 6-0 Forward Laichelle Sparrow. With these additions to the team, plus the 5 returners the Lady Rams were predicted to finish 4th in the CIAA South.
