Rams anticipate victories in CIAA, national championship

Winston-Salem State set the bar high coming into this season after finishing runner-up to Valdosta State in last season's Division II National Championship game. The Rams would like to finish this season holding up the championship trophy.

So far this season, the Rams are 5-1 and are undefeated in the CIAA. The Rams haven't had much competition from their conference opponents, winning by more than 20 points in each of their three conference games. WSSU still has four conference games remaining, but I highly doubt that any of those teams will challenge the Rams.

Just like last season, I see the Rams going 7-0 in the CIAA and competing for the conference championship. Right now, the Rams are in a class of their own. The only possible competition I see for WSSU in the CIAA is Virginia State.

The Rams are in the Southern Division and Virginia State is in the Northern Division, so they won't play each other in the regular season but are on course to meet in the conference championship game.

Virginia State is also undefeated in the CIAA and is playing much better football under new Head Coach Latrell Scott. However, WSSU is still the best team in the conference and I expect the Rams to win the conference championship yet again.

The true test of the season for the Rams will be winning the national championship. I expect the Rams to make it back to the Division II playoffs where their games will quickly become more competitive.

Despite the games being tougher in the playoffs, I still don't see why the Rams can't win the national championship. WSSU has a balanced offensive attack to go along with a tough defense. The Rams also have playmakers on both sides of the ball that can make a difference in any game.

So no matter what ranking the Rams have going into the playoffs, I believe they have a great chance to win it all because of how complete the team is.

The only criticism I would give WSSU is that it hasn't been given much competition from its regular season opponents thus far.

I fully expect the Rams to win the CIAA conference, but the season won't be a success unless WSSU wins the national championship.

WSSU will be up against a lot of strong teams in the playoffs. It won't be easy to even make it back to the championship game, but I think the Rams are ready to take on the challenge.
