Rams still undefeated
Nic Cooper has a career day rushing as the Winston-Salem Rams mauled the Fayetteville State Broncos 56-20 on Sept. 24 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. It was the first home game.
Cooper finished with 257 yards and four touchdowns.
"Nic really burst out today," head coach Connell Maynor said.
Cooper's previous career high was 175 yards against Livingstone last season.
"I was just happy to get those holes," Cooper said.
"The offensive line really opened it up for me."
On the first drive the Rams featured Cooper on every play. He ran four times for 75 yards and a touchdown. The drive included a breakout 67-yard burst that set up a touchdown run on the next play.
The Rams, scored on their second drive as Cooper had another dominating drive, amassed 52 yards on two carries and his second touchdown carry of the game.
The Rams scored again on a 74-yard punt return by Jameze Massey. Massey is a junior wide receiver from Monroe the return put the Rams up 21-0.
The Rams led at the half 35-6.
On the Rams' first drive of the second half, they continued their scoring ways on the ground.
The Rams only needed two plays to punch it in. They scored on a 64-yard run by Cooper. That was his third rushing touchdown of the game. This score put the Rams ahead 42-6.
This win gave the Rams their third straight win by more than 20 points. The win also kept them in first place in the southern division in the CIAA.
The Rams' next opponent is Johnson C. Smith, for the homecoming game . The Golden Bulls enters the contest with a 2-2 record. The Rams lead the all-time series 38-21-4.
"It is a big game for us and the school," Cooper said.
"We just have to come out and perform."
