Parting words from the senior staff of The News Argus, Online Producer
James Cherry, Online Producer
In less than two weeks, I will be one of many who have fought tooth and nail for four years.
Eight semesters of studying, researching, working, presenting, etc. all to receive that piece of parchment saying, "This is just the beginning...."
I have become a leader.
From freshman year in Wilson Residence Hall Council and Black Men for Change to becoming a member of Talented Tenth Mentoring Brotherhood and inducted into Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity Inc., I've done much.
I have become a volunteer.
Since my first time ushering at a fall commencement, I have mentored youth in the community and traveled miles across the seas to spread knowledge and learning to South Africa.
I know what it feels to help my University, my community, and the world.
I am a student.
I learned how to study, even at the last minute. I perfected how to present in front of my peers and superiors, and mastered the art of staying up late hours finishing a paper.
Most importantly, I have become a friend.
A friend to my wife, my colleagues in my major, my co-workers at The News Argus, my organizations, and to my fellow Rams.
Before WSSU, I kept to myself. I'm happy to say I've met kindred spirits.
Thanks to the legacy left behind by Dr. Simon Green Atkins I have learned to love, to lead, to work, to ask questions, to worship, and to be a better individual.
To my alma mater, Winston-Salem State, God bless thee.
