The Editor's View: It's been real WSSU

As my staff and I worked on this last issue of "The News Argus" for the semester, it finally hit me: Graduation is only a couple of weeks away.

This has by far been my most challenging school year at Winston-Salem State.

During the fall semester I worked part-time.  This semester, I interned at the Winston-Salem Journal. I did all of this while still being the editor-in-chief of The News Argus  -- where I work more than 15 hours weekly and some weekends.

I've grown as a writer and leader.

I am confident that I'll be able to take on any challenge that I face as I pursue my career goal  -- to become a sports writer for a professional media organization.

When I first joined The News Argus during the 2011-2012 school year, I didn't know what to expect.

It was my junior year and I just wanted the opportunity to write sports stories for the student newspaper.

I had no idea that I would one day become editor-in-chief, but I did want to do my best to handle the responsibility.

Under my leadership, I am happy to report that my staff won several awards in national and state-wide student media competitions.

Thank you to the faculty, staff, students and alums who gave my staff interviews and who sometimes participated in the Ramble Online.

A special thank you to the Argus staff, contributors and interns.

Best wishes to next year's staff, and I know you'll keep the Argus tradition going.

As for the mass communications department, I appreciate all of the major professors I have had -- Dr. Blount, Dr. Saddler, Dr. Sen, Mr. Jenkins and my academic adviser Dr. Jeter.

I'll do my best to represent the department in a positive way.

I want to most of all say "Thank You" to Dr. Cobb, our Argus adviser.  I've learned the most about being a journalist from her classes and working with her on the student newspaper.

Nothing came easy, but I'm more prepared for my future profession because of the struggles of this past year.

Congratulations to all of the other Rams graduating and good luck.  I hope to see you at homecoming.
