You don't know this? Are you serious?
We have to do better
Stop complaining, and do something about it!
As college students we should keep up with what is going on in our community, state and country. Do you know which Republican or Democratic candidates are running for election in Winston-Salem, North Carolina or your hometown?
Shame on you if you have not answered "yes" to all these questions.
Winston-Salem State, we have to do better.
I was speaking with a freshman and she had no idea who Joe Biden is.
She also told me that she didn't know the name of the person who President Obama is running against.
She said she has not registered to vote but said she meant to do that.
Winston-Salem State, we really have to do better.
We ARE the future of our country.
We should know who is running our counties, cities and states, and of course our federal government.
Not only should we know political party affiliations, but we should also know what the issues are and how they might impact our lives.
We all should watch the news and keep abreast of current events, not just entertainment news.
Also, as college students we need to READ.
Our generation does not like to read anything longer than an email a tweet or a menu.
We should read something substantial every day things like newspapers -- print and online -- magazines, novels, and so on.
If we read often and critically, we become better informed and better writers!
We should be ineligible to complain about what is happening to our country if we fail to keep abreast of the issues.
If we don't wake up and take a stand for what we believe in and educate ourselves on things going on in our country will not get very far.
Winston-Salem State, we have to do better.
