Homecoming Football Game
On October 20, 2018, the Winston Salem State Rams football team hosted the Livingstone College Blue Bears in a CIAA south conference Matchup. More Importantly, this was the Rams homecoming game. Coming into the game the Rams 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference sitting in 2nd place in the CIAA south behind undefeated Fayetteville State.
The beginning of the game started out slow with both teams have to punt the ball after 3 plays for their first two drives. After that, the game got interesting when Senior wide receiver Cameron Williams blocked a punt which was then recovered returned by LB Dachon Witherspoon. The Rams continued to Shut out the Blue Bears for the entire First quarter leading the game 6 - 0
The second quarter was a lot more Interesting than the first, although the defense gave up an early score giving the Blue Bears their only lead of the game. Following the score by the Blue Bears, the Rams had 2 play drive starting with a big play by the quarter back making a big throw to Senior receiver Jaylan Barbour and then hand the ball of to Senior RB Kerrion Moore for a 54 yard touchdown. The following drive Moore had another big run for 54 yards which lead to another touchdown to put the rams up 20-7 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Rams continued maintaining the lead by LB Patrick Green pick up a fumble recovery and running it down the field until he was finally tackled at the 1-yard line where the Rams kicked a field goal to lead the game 23-7. After getting another defensive stop, the Rams Quarterback Dominique Graves marched down the field and then ran for a 27-yard touchdown putting the rams up 29-13.
In the fourth quarter the Rams defence gave up its second touchdown, but the special teams who were having a good game capitalized on that blocking the extra point and running it back to make the score 31-13. Later on in the quarter, the Ram kicked another field goal securing the win with a final score of 34-13.
Starting Quarterback Graves had a productive day completing 7 of his 19 passes for 108 yards. Although he had to come out because of an injury, Emiere Scaife came in the game and kept the Rams going down the field while completing 2 of his 7 passing attempts for 48 yard. On the ground Running back Kerrion Moore led the way rushing for 154 yards on 21 carries, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. On the receiving side Wide Receiver Quincy Jackson had 88 total yards on 4 catches averaging 22 yards per catch. While Jaylan Barbour had a total of 61 yards on 3 catches, averaging 20.3 yards per catch. On the defensive end De’Andre Blevins lead the team with 6 solo tackles while Tyrell Fleeming and Patrick Green both had 4 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackle. Green a long with Tyron Roberts were the only to sack the quarter back, tying with 1 sack a piece. Lastly, Free safety Daryus Skinner finished the game with 3 interceptions.
