McCain’s attacks pointless

During the final presidential debate, R-Sen. John McCain attacked D-Sen. Barack Obama like a bull dog backed into a corner. This was McCain’s last chance to discredit Obama’s judgment and decision making skills.

McCain resorted to bringing up Obama’s connection with former radical activist leader William Ayers.

Obama was an 8-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen group was active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost 40 years ago is ridiculous.

Obama said during the debate that he “roundly condemned” Ayers’ support of violent reform three decades ago.

Most national polls show Obama ahead of McCain. Therefore, McCain probably thinks he has no other choice but to attack everything in Obama’s past. This includes his connection with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

ACORN has recently been accused by conservative right-wingers of voter fraud because registrars have found fake registration applications submitted by supporters of the group.

Obama responded earlier in the week saying it was probably 13 years ago, when he was still practicing law, that he represented ACORN. His partner in that representation was the U.S. Justice Department. The “Motor Voter” law was created to make sure that people could go to DMV’s and driver’s license facilities to get registered.

The problem with McCain is that he is trying to discredit Obama, and therefore distract voters from the main issues such as the economy, the war, healthcare and the crisis on Wall Street.
