Dr. Forrest-Carter’s second novel remains true to its title, “Judge Not!”

Dr. Forrest-Carter continues her literary journey with the release of her dramatic second novel, “Judge Not!” Forrest-Carter said she realized that she wanted to write a sequel to “The Wages of Sin” after she began writing her debut novel.”Initially, I knew that I would write a sequel to the novel. I intentionally left out bits of information and unanswered questions about Dr. Laura Bradley-Hutchins in “The Wages of Sin.””Judge Not!” is the story of two best friends who stick by each other through thick and thin. The main character, Dr. Laura Bradley-Hutchins is facing personal challenges and knows that through it all, she can count on her best friend, Marseille Cooper. They uplift and uphold each other. In essence, they realize that their friendship and faith will always sustain them through their trials, tribulations and life in general. The scripture verse “judge not, that ye be not judged” is a common thematic element in Forrest-Carter’s sequel to “The Wages of Sin”. Laura has an epiphany: “no longer would judgment bind her to a buried past.”Forrest-Carter’s characters show her readers that people should not be quick to judge others. Furthermore, her novel expounds upon the notion that the “grass is not always greener on the other side.”By remaining true to its title, “Judge Not!” also explores the themes of forgiveness, love, repentance, faith, positive relationships and black pride.Forrest-Carter said that she “wanted to show another side of the supremely powerful side of the African-American experience.” Furthermore, she seeks to paint a story of upwardly mobile African-Americans who face challenges and obstacles that all cultures and races can relate to and understand.WSSU students, avid readers, and fans of Forrest-Carter’s novels can expect an addition to this collection in 2007 called “Cast Your Cares”.For more information about Forrest-Carter and her novels, visit her Web site at www.milesfrom96.com.
