My view: This could be a good year for WSSU sports

1. Watching the Rams pick up some CIAA trophies on their way out. WSSU has the best athletic tradition of the teams currently in the conference, so it’s only right that they go out with some hardware.

2. WSSU’s Shannon Davis winning NCAA Woman of the Year. Davis, All-CIAA in softball and bowling, has already been named Woman of the Year for the state of North Carolina, and looks to be one of the top 10 finalists. She is an inspirational young lady who deserves all the accolades she receives, even if she doesn’t look for them.

3. Another record breaking season from the Rams’ backfield. Senior Martin Hicks is another 1,000 yard season away from climbing to second on WSSU’s all-time rushing list. Junior Jed Bines looks to weave his way through defenses for his second consecutive 1,000 yard season.

4. The Return of Track and Field. After a five-year hiatus, track and field returns to WSSU. The addition of one of the most successful athletic programs at WSSU will allow students who participated in the sport in high school the chance to compete, as well as add another Division I-AA sport to WSSU.

5. Listening to B-Daht call the Rams’ home football games. The radio personality from 102 Jamz has brought much needed excitement to Bowman-Gray Stadium. He is entertaining (at least the home fans think so) and keeps fans wondering what he’ll say next.
