SGA leader shares thoughts about recent Division I transition decision

As many of you know, Sept. 11, 2009, the Winston-Salem State University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to support the recommendation from the Chancellor that WSSU remain a Division II athletic program in the NCAA.

If you visit the University homepage, you will find more information on the NCAA Division I Transition Decision that includes a news release, background information, and Frequently Asked Questions.

Also, please remember that this issue was inherited from our predecessors and a decision had to be made.

We understand that this is a critical time in the development of a student-athletes career, but the decision was based around Winston-Salem State University’s inability to financially support the Division I transition.

The University is working hard to insure that all students that are affected by the change are assisted in the process.

Moreover, since this affects so many of our fellow Rams, we must continue to support our university and future Alma Mater as alumni and GIVE BACK as well as support our student-athletes when they are performing.

The success of the institution is dependent upon the drive and commitment of the student body.

Thus, I charge you with this question – “What will you pledge?”

Will you walk with the strength, vigor, and pride of a TRUE RAM?

What will you commit to your fellow Rams? What will you commit to yourselves and to your future Alma Mater?

I hope that you will take great pride in having such an important role in shaping the university’s future.

Many of your questions may be unanswered and if so, please feel free to e-mail me and I will make sure they are addressed.
