Honda team finishes 3-4 in national tourney

The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge team finished with a 3-4 record in the National Tournament on March 26-30.

The tournament was in Orlando with 64 HBCUs competing. For the team’s participation in the tournament, WSSU received a cash award of $3,000.

The team had only one returning player among the five participants. Junior Candace Kelly, an elementary education major, competed in the tournament for the second consecutive year.

Carlton Brunson finished seventh in scoring among 40 players in the Bessie Smith Division, averaging nearly 34 points per game.

Krashaunda Chadwick, a junior exercise science major from Pollocksville, N.C. was a first- year competitor as well.

“It was very competitive, but it was interesting,” she said. “I learned a lot. I had a great time meeting people, and I hope to go back again next year.”
