Subject: Student Wins State Chapter Position
Hello! We are writing to ask for an article to be placed in the next issue of the News Argus. We have a member who has won a great honor and would like her to be recognized. We are sending some information, not in article format, in hopes that someone can put together a great article for us. We are also sending a picture in case it can be used.
Kristy Leonard is a Senior at WSSU. She is from Thornton, New Hampshire and now resides off campus in Winston Salem. She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, Northern Connections, Phi Beta Lambda, National Deans List, Who’s Who among American Universities, and is an Honor Student.
Kristy Leonard reactivated the Xi Gamma chapter here at WSSU three years ago. The chapter since has achieved great things, with its now 52 members. The chapter had four winners at competitive events that made it to National competitions and won seven awards for its growth. Now WSSU holds the second largest chapter in the state. This chapter and its members have now made WSSU known in the Phi Beta Lambda organization.
Phi Beta Lambda is a national business organization. It stands for progress, service, and education. It is for all students who wish to gain business skills, network, and get involved on campus. They compete against other schools in business events, do community service, and help students learn leadership skills. It is also the College level of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).
After presiding over the WSSU chapter for three years, Kristy has now won a position on the state executive council. For the 2004-2005 school year she will serve the state chapter as Central Region Vice President. This will bring students from other schools to our campus for meetings and positive publicity to WSSU. We know she will represent us in a great manner. So we would like to congratulate Kristy on her great accomplishment and wish her the best of luck.
“It has been a lot of hard work but worth it. I have a great love for Phi Beta Lambda and have learned so much from it. I only hope that other students can enjoy this organization as much as I do”, said Kristy.
If further information is needed please contact Kristy herself at kleon409@wssu.edu or 336-661-2577. We hope you can help us congratulate Kristy on her accomplishment.
Thank You
PS The kickoff with other schools will be held on September 21, 2004. It will involve about 15 other schools. Their PBL key members and advisor will come to WSSU from 1pm until 4pm. Kristy will present them with the plan of events for the upcoming year. Some of the schools include NC Central University, WSSU, Stanley Community College, Wake Tech, NC A&T, Livingstone, UNCC, UNCG, and many more.
