UREC Looks To Continue and Improve Student Engagement Through Physical Fitness Classes and Personal Training

Winston-Salem States University Recreation has been increasing in popularity, due to an array of fitness classes and commendable personal training. UREC has made exceptional improvements geared towards student physical wellness and student-to-student engagement through fitness and health.

Monday, January 14th, marks the beginning of UREC personal training and fitness classes for the Spring 2019 semester.

In regards to personal training through UREC, students must fill out a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form which is accessible at the first floor fitness desk in UREC. The form is both an introduction to personal training and the facility itself and contains a personal wellness questionnaire for UREC personal trainers to assess. After completion, the form is processed, and a UREC personal trainer will be assigned.

Personal trainers and apprentices include; Christin Boykin, Imani Franks, Jordan Hicks, Josh McMurrin, Iman Nesbit, Katelyn Pickett and Elijah Richardson.

University Recreation will continue its fitness classes during weekdays to improve physical wellness and create an enjoyable and beneficial student environment. Most fitness classes are conducted by WSSU students which creates a more personal atmosphere.

Some fitness classes offered during the semester are; an Abdominal Exercise class which will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-5:30 PM, a Glute and Leg class which will be held on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:00 PM, and a RAMFIT class, a total body workout based class, that will be held Thursdays from 7:00-8:00 PM.

Fitness class instructors include; Christin Boykin, Katelyn Pickett and Elijah Richardson.

More information regarding fitness, personal training and inquiries can be given by fitness associates and Ms. Vanessa Hood, who are located on the first floor of UREC. Fitness class dates and times are posted outside Ms. Hood’s office window on the first floor of UREC.

Students are encouraged to utilize UREC services to maintain physical well-being and student involvement.
