On Sept. 11, 2001, a Winston-Salem State alumna became one of the victims of that day’s terrorist attacks.
Sarah Miller Clark, a member of the 1957 class, was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77.
Clark, 65, was a sixth-grade teacher at Backus Middle School in Washington, D.C.
The Sunday before her ill-fated flight, she and her fiancé John Milton Wesley, were planning their upcoming nuptials.
That Tuesday morning, the couple kissed, embraced and said, “I love you,” to each other before she left their Columbia, Md. home for Dulles
International Airport.
“Her engagement ring is still upstairs,” Wesley said.
