Student Center construction on schedule

UNIVERSITY MEDIA RELATIONS – The construction of the new Student Activities Center started nine months ago, and it appears the building is moving along according to schedule.

Winston-Salem State broke ground for the new three-story, 96,000 square foot structure in March.

It is anticipated that the Center will be completed May 2013.

The Center will be the home for a campus hall, dining area, fitness area and meeting room.

The Student Affairs Office and space for student-related organizations and activities will be relocated from the Thompson Center to the new building.  The cafeteria, the bookstore and student services offices will remain in Thompson.

The Student Activities Center will be named the “Donald Julian Reaves Student Activities Center.”

The WSSU Board of Trustees initiated a resolution and unanimously approved the name, according to a University news release.

“Chancellor Reaves has provided the vision, leadership and support necessary to take Winston-Salem State to the next level,” said Debra Miller, BOT chair.
