Paranormal Activity is the story of one couple’s horrifying ordeal as they record their lives over a period of weeks. Strange happenings begin to occur when couple Micah (Micah Sloat) and Katie (Katie Featherston) move into their new home and begin documenting various instances of the unexplained. When Micah brings home a camera to capture footage of possible “paranormal activity” in their home, Katie is reluctant to the idea of having a camera rolling to capture unseen forces in their home.
I had apprehensions going into the film; I was hoping that I would not be wasting my money on a movie that would not be scary. After a somewhat slow beginning, the movie progresses to a suspenseful chiller that keeps the audience on edge throughout the duration of the film. Among other reactions, I was very entertained. Because the film had such a small budget, I was sure that it would show on the screen. The film far passed my expectations from the effects to the actual story. Although I thought the scene progression was a bit slow at times, the special effects were outstanding. The film was also hard to predict and had plenty of surprises which is a rarity in today’s horror films. The best part of this movie is the ending because it was far from typical. Not only did the element of surprise go beyond my expectations, the audience reaction was memorable as well. Paranormal Activity, directed Oren Peli, is a suspense-filled thriller with a classic horror movie ending that will leave audiences at the edges of their seats.
