College of Arts & Sciences honors students in first awards ceremony

The Winston-Salem State College of Arts and Sciences held its first awards ceremony on April 1.

Students were given awards in five categories: Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievements; Outstanding Student-Academics; Outstanding Student- Research; Most Improved and Outstanding Student-Service.

Dr. Mohammed Muztaba Fuad, chair of the awards committee, said he likes the idea of having an awards ceremony.

“The awards inspire the students and the faculty because it pushes the students to want to receive the award, and it also makes the faculty work harder to ensure their students are achieving success,” he said.

Dr. Charles W. Ford, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said this ceremony was important to show the students how much the college appreciates them.

“The students work so hard, and we never get the opportunity to thank and recognize them for their success,” he said.

“We value our students and want to make sure we recognize them for their achievements.”
