Local committee offers extra activities for area college students

WSSU is one-quarter of the Twin Cities Collegiate Committee also known as The Quad.

The Quad includes area colleges and universities: Wake Forest University, N.C. School of the Arts and Salem College.

Representatives from these campuses meet once a month to plan service, leadership, and activities for students in Winston-Salem.

While only the representatives attend the monthly meeting, the planned activities are open to all students from all campuses.

“It gives students a chance to mix and mingle with other students that they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to meet,” said WSSU representative Rashad Little.

Natasha Jeffreys, WSSU director of student development, is also involved in The Quad.

“The group works together,” Jeffreys said.

“It’s a partnership between the four schools to create a forum and plan events.”

The committee formed during the 2008 spring semester.

The Quad also hosts conferences. The Twin Cities Leadership Conference was at WSSU Feb. 23, and the 2009 conference will be at Salem College.

During the conference, 25 leadership-oriented students represent their colleges and universities, discuss community involvement and service.

Quad members have attended WSSU’s events such as: Spike Lee’s visit and the Vagina Monologues.

The Quad is planning include a laser tag event and themed student parties.
