The Lady Rams experienced a heart-felt loss to the South Carolina State Bulldogs Oct. 26.
Then the team (4-21) traveled to Charleston, S.C. to face the Citadel Bulldogs (8-17) Oct. 28.
The Lady Rams hoped to bounce back from the previous loss, but offensive struggles hindered the team against the powerful Bulldogs.
The Lady Rams could not outmatch the Bulldog defense that held the team to a .010 attack percentage despite 99 WSSU attacks in the match.
The match started slow with the Lady Rams trailing the Bulldogs 10-4 in the first game. The team fought back to close the deficit, but the momentum did not stay on the home team’s side.
Key players were outside hitter Annika Barnwell and middle blocker Georgette Allen both totaling five kills each. Barnwell also totaled three service aces while freshman setter Alexandria Brown added 18 assists in the match.
Final scores of the match were 17-25, 7-25 and 17-25.
The Lady Rams lost their last home match, 3-0 against rivals N.C. A&T Oct. 31.
The match was senior night and utility Valentina Pushkina was honored.
