WSSU women’s season winding down

With their final two home basketball games approaching on Feb. 8 and 21, the Lady Rams are determined to enter the games well-focused and prepared to grab a couple more wins for the home crowd.

The team has had a bumpy season this year with five wins, but they’re determined to finish the season strong as they host Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday, Feb. 8, and Savannah State Wednesday, Feb.21. Both games start at 7 p.m. at C.E. Gaines Center . On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Lady Rams will play Longwood at Longwood , Va.

Other than their plans to win, the team strives to “get better skill wise, get along with one another and teach each other how to be a leader,” said forward Lavontay Johnson.

The team functions as a unit and not as individuals, said Coach Dee Stokes. “We do not believe in having only one captain, as they alternate each game because they all are leaders,” she said.

With seven returning players, the Lady Rams hope to build a successful season on the backs of freshman  Ja’Pel Sumpter; sophomores Richea Harris, Lavontay Johnson, Candace Saunders, Akebia Williams; juniors Tierra Rudd and Keoshia Worthy, and their new recruits.
