WSSU Dining Services Does More Than Just Serve Food

When confined to a college campus, students often become wrapped up in schoolwork and extracurricular activities. The importance of proper nutrition is then substituted with an unhealthy snack or meal on the go. Fortunately, WSSU Dining Services is on the job when it’s time to grub.

Wherever students stop to eat on campus, it’s likely that they are eating goods distributed through the employees of Dining Services. From the Ram Shack to Kennedy Dining Hall, about 150 workers contribute to providing diverse culinary options. Damon Scott, director of Dining Services, understands the value of student choice and a good diet when it comes to assisting the campus lifestyle. “As far as healthy options, there are plenty out there,” Scott said.

However, Kenneth Fishe, a freshman who lives on campus, thinks that campus food options could use some improvement. “The operations in the cafeteria are all right; they could be better. There should be different selections for the menu,” said Fishe, a business administration major.

In an effort to provide such improvement, Dining Services is also involved in other projects throughout the school year. This department of WSSU is available for catering certain events, and some employees even meet once a month with the children of the WSSU Child Development and Lab School to teach about different foods, ranging from exotic fruits to coffee. The administrators of Dining Services are also working to launch a new Web site that will include such features as daily menus and food items sold around campus to further inform students and staff of the selections offered during mealtime. In order to better satisfy the campus community’s hunger cravings, Dining Services would also like to have input on its selections. Anyone who has questions, comments or suggestions on ways to improve the food at WSSU can contact Dining Services at (336) 750-3280.
