School of Health Sciences hires new director to help students prepare for Success

Success is not about luck; it is more aboutpreparation and making the most of every opportunity.A single opportunity can, in fact, offer infinitepossibilities. Sharon Hush, newly appointed director of The Schoolof Health Sciences Student Help Center, is in a unique position designed to help students make sure theyare a success when they are here and when they leave,as well. “My passion lies in working with students, people ingeneral. As a student I remember not receiving all theinformation I needed on a regular basis. It is tooeasy for students to not receive importantinformation,” she said. As director of The Student Help Center, Hush positionadvises and assists students with registration,graduation clearance and other departments likefinancial aid. “Working with students is huge for me, because Iremember what I went through,” Hush said. “In a new environment, students don’t know [thenecessities] and the university needs to let themknow. This position is one step that will change thatbecause the students are our priority,” she added. Hush wants students to know that her position isdesigned to help them and she is available to answertheir questions, and “If I don’t know the answer I amgoing to find the person that does,” she said. According to Hush, “environment adds to what you makeof it and students are treated well by given the toolsneeded to succeed.” Hush says she always followed what a grade schoolteacher once told her “Never do anything that’s easyfor you; if students start off with that, they’llsucceed.” It is a motto she implements when helpingstudents. Hush, a North Carolina native, received her bachelorof science from North Carolina State University inApplied Sociology.
