Q. I am seeing this young lady and I thinking about making her my girlfriend. She has very good conversation and I enjoy being around her. The only thing that turns me off about her is that the first night we meet we had sex. Most would say that that is not a good thing and some may even say she is a “freak” for doing that. I do not know what to do because I like her; but if I make her my girl friend I will always wonder how many other guys she had sex with on the first night. What do you suggest I do?
A. Girlfriend? No, I do not think you should try to pursue her in a relationship. You said that you like her but for what reasons? You have to ask yourself would you really like this female if you all did not have a sexual encounter. If you have to hesitate in answering this then you do not need to be with her. If you think you will always have doubts in the back of your mind about her; then just leave what you all had or did in the past. By her sleeping with you on the first night people may judge her as the “freak” and you as being the “man.” You all sleeping together on the first night says a lot about not only her character but yours as well. More fingers and ridicule may be put on her because she is a female and she had sex on the first night. But in my opinion I feel ridicule and fingers should be pointed at you also because if you really liked this female you should have not tried to pursue on the first night, instead waited to get to know her better. If you had any respect for her you would have waited. If you would have waited you would not have to wander or question if you wanted her as a girlfriend or not. Besides anything easy isn’t worth having.
Q. Elections were held November 7, 2006. Many students did not go vote because they did not have transportation or did not know where to vote. Many students who wanted to vote could not because of these reasons. What do you think WSSU can do to get more students involved in voting?
A. If students feel strongly about voting I think that the university should provide students will all resources to help them participate in these events. If students do not have transportation I think there should be some type of transportation provided. We as a student body can help find each other find transportation to “The Millennium ” , “Pancho Villas” and various other clubs during the weekday and weekend. So there should be no problem finding transportation for something that is really important and that really that makes a difference .For those students who do have cars they may consider giving transportation to those in need. Voting was not always a right given to African Americans and now since we have been awarded the right we should utilize it every chance we get.
