Homecoming Week Festivities

Sunday, October 1Homecoming Week got started off right with a gospel concert featuring the captivating performances of Myron Butler, The Lights of Zion Mime Ministry, WSSU and WFU Gospel Choirs, Focus and Voices of Art. Sunday evening ended with “Screen on the Green” drive-in movie at 9 p.m.

Monday, October 2Monday night sitcoms did not stand a chance against the live comedic performances of four fantastic comedians: Rob Stapleton, Ms. B-Phlat, Rodman, and Co-Coa Brown dishing out good times and a handful of laughs at the Comedy show. 

Tuesday, October 3Poetic rhymes and lyrics echoed through the plaza at the Poetry Slam Contest Tuesday afternoon. The evening finished out with the Street Ball All-Star Tour that was packed with 2,100 people! The players thrilled the crowd with cross-over dribbles and thunderous slam dunks.

Wednesday, October 4It was a full house of Rams that came out and supported the Royal Court at Coronation. The beautiful Egyptian theme captivated the audience with overwhelming glamour and afro-centric exquisiteness as the lovely Tiffany Turner was crowned Miss WSSU and Jason Lewis, Mr. Ram.The Royal Ball followed with Rams dressed to impress and dance the night away.

Thursday, October 5Music and fun filled the air at the Yard Fest Concotion, otherwise known as the ultimate hype-fest!

Friday, October 6The classic pep rally got a WSSU makeover at the Ram Rally! The breezeway was crowded with lots of fan-based love for the Rams. The Ram Carnival followed with fun old-school style, and plenty of Ram spirit. The soulfully rich step show began at 7 p.m. with the sensational men of black and gold taking home the grand prize.

Saturday, October 7No Ram was caught sleeping in on Saturday morning during the parade, which featured Miss WSSU, Mr. Ram, and the Kings, Queens and escorts of several clubs on campus. Later that day, former Miss WSSUs and Mr. Rams gathered together for the Royal Reunion Luncheon. The cold breeze was not the only thing sending chills down everyone’s back. The moment everyone was waiting for finally arrived-the football game. The Rams took the Howard Bison down with the winning score, 12-0. The two heavy-hitters of the hip-hop nation, Ludacris and Yung Jock, equaled one hype Homecoming Concert! The blazing rappers wowed the crowd with their head-bopping hits. For those who were not at the concert, they must have been with the DJ in the Plaza event snapping their fingers and stepping to their favorite songs. Faculty and staff enjoyed the sensational Will Downing Concert featuring special guests, comedian Rodney Perry and singer Maria Howell.

Sunday, October 8Homecoming week ended with a worship service at St. Peters World Outreach Center.
