Rams Rule

The common saying says that you break up to make up. The Ram football team made up with the gods of homecoming after a yearlong wait to reclaim dominance resulted in a 38-0 win over visiting Johnson C. Smith. From the time that the game ball arrived perfectly on the 50-yard line by parachute the Rams were in control of their big homecoming game against the Golden Bulls, even though it took the Rams most of the first quarter to prove there point. Did I say point please pardon the pun. The Rams finally got things underway with 3:11 remaining in the first quarter as senior kicker Ashton Oakley playing in his last homecoming game nailed his fourth field goal of the season from 37-yards out, to stake the Rams to a 3 – 0 lead after one. The Rams opened the second quarter by marching 97 yards in 10 plays with running back Martin Hicks, who leads the conference in rushing and scoring, scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 16-yard sweep. The Rams, with 57 seconds left in the first half, marched 23-yards in 4 plays following a fumble recovery with Hicks this time out sprinting the Smith defense around the corner. The touchdown was Hicks 12 th of the season, and pushed the Ram lead to 17-0 at halftime. Ram quarterback Josh McGee who limped into the locker room after being man handled on the final two plays of the first half was replaced by Rodney Milbourne who led the Rams 75 yards in 6 plays with Freshman Jed Bines, who wound up the afternoon with 145 yards on 13 carries, banging in from the 15 to move the Ram lead to 24 – 0 at the end of the third quarter. The forth quarter also belonged to the Rams as Hicks, who finished with 143 yards on 23 carries, scored again from the 11 to give the Rams a 31 – 0 lead. Finally, running back Willie “Pedie” Byrd who is now third on the Rams depth chart rammed his way into the end zone to give the Rams their second consecutive shut out 38-0 over the tarnished Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith.
