The Rams rolled over the North Carolina Central Eagles in a 47-0 rout and the turning point of the game came in the first series of offensive downs for the Rams. On the opening kickoff, WSSU player Martin Hicks fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered the fumble. They started their first offensive series from the Ram’s 20-yard line and threatened to score. But the Ram’s defense kept the Eagles out of the end zone and forced a failed 23-yard field goal attempt. This series of plays set the tone for the rest of the game. From the first quarter to the fourth, the Ram’s defense played stout and the offense scored at will. The Ram’s offense scored in every quarter and dominated in all facets of the game. The Ram’s rushing attack did the most damage. As a team, the Rams rushed the ball 48 times for a total of 305 yards. Tailback Martin Hicks was the Rams leading rusher, making up for his opening kickoff miscue. Hicks had 17 carries for a total of 204 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Josh McGee also had a good day passing the ball. He was 16-24 for 167 yards and a touchdown. His precise passing complimented the running game perfectly. The offense line dominated the game, as much as the defense. The secondary had three interceptions, two of which were by defensive back Gabriel Dennis, and linebacker Levern Bynum had seven tackles to lead the defense. It was apparent that this was a total team effort. Coach Kermit Blount of the Rams said, “My team’s focus was their key to success against the Eagles.”
