The popularity of the intramural basketball program prompted the season to start early this school year. Intramural basketball usually start in the beginning of the spring semester, but this year there is a fall season.Games are played on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. in Whitaker Gymnasium. On most nights games are pretty competitive. The 25-point lead rule, a provision that halts play if a team gains a 25-point advantage over their opponent, has to be used sometimes, b”ut games are usually close. Games are very exciting which is the principle reason why so many students can be found in attendance, with many students citing the support of their peers as another reason.Students can identify with players that they see on campus everyday and they may consider some of the players their friends. With this in mind, it is very easy to see why students would support the intramural players. Another reason the students attend games is the entertainment value. Students can get out of class, eat dinner, and head over to the gym to watch the game. The intramural games also provide a break for students from class and other stresses of college. If your watching or playing in an intramural game you don’t have to think about your classes, your financial aid, your boyfriend/girlfriend, your grades, etc. You are able to just sit, watch, and enjoy the game.
